Artist's Description

uring the 1970’s African American women expressed their power through their vote. Two powerful women Shirley Chisholm, the first African American Woman elected to the United States Congress; and Barbara Jordan, the first African American elected to the House of Representatives and to the Texas Senate after Reconstruction

The painting “The Time Is Now!” represents the woman’s voice through their vote. It shows a group of women advocates holding voting signs. The painting is representative of woman’s continued fight to be recognized as equal to men.

The painting The Time Is Now” is a symbolic reminder of the National Organization for Women (NOW). NOW was a movement organized by women due to the lack of enforcement of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
