Defiance is the story of Rosa Park's bus ride. She sits dignified looking beyond the cityscape. A young Caucasian teenager sits across from her in defiance of Rosa's position taken, seating in the white section of the bus. This painting is in the permanent collection of The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State UniversityAlabama African American Museum in Montgomery, Alabama. This painting was acquired in 2011 by ASU.

Multiple images overlap to reveal an episode of life. In an expressionistic style, the content may depict a regional landscape or figures. The paintings primarily explore and illustrate life, the understanding of that life, and ideas through colors, impasto texture, depth and shapes; and within those frames what is created is a responsive work of art.
